Setting free the open-air part

In November 1999, a roofed steel skeleton was erected all around where the open-air part of the Leverkusen Therban plant was going to be constructed. Sheltered by this plastics covered skeleton, about 200 workers - many of them craftsmen - continued their work all winter long, independently of the outside weather conditions

They installed vessels, insulation layers and about 22 km of corrosion-resistant pipes made of stainless steel or higher quality material. Over 140,00 components for more than 2,000 pipe connections were individually, computer designed, tailor-made and finally assembled.

Most of the construction and installation work in the open-air part now being finished, the shelter construction was dismantled in April 2000. The plastic covering was removed, collected and cleaned for reuse. The roof segments were taken down by large cranes and finally the steel skeleton was dismantled. All this was achieved in only three days.
