Synchronous Timing Belts
Made with Therban®
Most passenger car engines are built with one or two camshafts at the top of the engine to operate the valves. The camshafts have to be driven from the crankshaft with the utmost precision. The best method of achieving the required precision is by means of a synchronous timing belt. Such belts are made from Therban® HNBR, typically with a glass cord reinforcement and a dipped polyamide fabric covering over the teeth. The belt teeth mesh with teeth on the sprockets. Timing belts are exposed to a wide range of temperatures, high running speed and, occasionally, to engine fluids such as coolants and oil. Nevertheless they are expected to perform for more than 150,000 km or approximately 2,500 hours of service.
State-of-the-art synchronous timing belts based on Therban® HNBR live up and exceed this expectation based on the ideal combination of strength, excellent dynamic properties and resistance to oil, heat, ozone and long term aging. And what holds true for first - time equipment is equally valid for replacement belts, where an increasing number of customers are already requesting long - lasting synchronous timing belts based on Therban® HNBR as opposed to cheaper, yet less reliable alternatives.
